Question for the Community: Resources for Interns

We’re counting on you to help us answer this question from a fellow youth-worker:

On Ep. 181, someone mentioned a resource created by Jana about interns. I checked around and cannot find it. Do you know how to find it and also if there are any other good resources that would benefit a church that is looking to start an internship ministry?

Also, how would you help me convince my church to develop an internship program? My church thinks that it would put more work on me than it would benefit the church and student ministry.

Preston, I'm with you. I've got an internship program ready to rock at our church....on paper. As far as convincing the church leadership about an internship program, I'd just lay it out with the specifics of your plan and how this will enhance the student ministry AND will take some of the weight off of you. Lay out the specific responsibilities of the intern, if they're paid and how, what the hours-per-week expectations are, etc. As far as I'm concerned, internship programs are the deep waters of leadership development and even disciplemaking. How cool to think that we're not just a ministry reaching out to teens, but we're also a servant-leader factory; cranking out leaders who are primed for fruitful ministry?!?
