Question for the Community: Follow-Up Software

We’re counting on you to help us answer this question from a fellow youth-worker:

What program(s) do you recommend to contact students and parents that utilizes both e-mail and text messaging. I have asked a few other (bigger) youth ministries, but no one seems to have found a program that does it all. I appreciate any input that you might have!

We used Simply Text and it works good for us. It has a small fee but I found it to be well worth it the more I used it. My buddies with an iPhone like the Callvine App but I have never used it

Haven't seen one that does both. Mailchimp is a free web app for email. Can't recommend it highly enough! About to try Communicate from SYM Tools, because my phone is spotty when sending out mass texts.

I have found Sendhub.com which is free for smaller groups. It is only mass texting but it is good at that. It works well if you don't have a group over 25 and are on a budget... (and we all chuckle because, yes.. yes we are..)

We use Ministry Tracker. It is web-based, does both, records attendance, filters, is accessible anywhere, has a mobile version, has permissions that can be set for accessing the data, etc. It isn't free, but it isn't expensive either. It isn't perfect, but the developers actually love to dialogue with their users to help improve their product and so take suggestions/requests seriously. ministrytracker.com

We use SYMTXT for mass texting and contact management and Twitter integration (the Facebook integration is a bit cluncky). We use Mailchimp for e-mail. We haven't found a good single stream solution. We're a small ministry and SYMTXT is a bit of a stretch on the budget but still well worth it (especially since they have added the TXT to send shortcuts)!
